Law And Order in the district is well maintained by the Deputy Commisioner who excercises the magisterial powers as the District Magistrate together with the aid of the District Police Department headed by the Superintendent of Police. With hostile behaviours from neighbouring state, districts and international border a major concern regarding law and order in the district arose in the past recent years especially the influence of the outlawed GNLA causing the Police and local administrative bodies to be on constant high alert. The 5th Battalion of the Meghalaya Police is stationed at Samandagre and its role is significant in maintaining the law and order with the support and able leadership of the Superintendent of Police and the Commandant.
With the advent of information technology, the District Police department is taking drastic steps and initiatives in putting in place an infrastructure to cope with modern day criminal minds. The implementation of the CCTNS project in the district is definitely worth an artillery in their arsenal with state of the art technology ; keeping a track of criminal records on a central database, an innovative mission mode application from the Government of India.
